The exterior of the 2026 XM is characterized by its "brutalistic" design language, featuring sharp, angular lines and a commanding silhouette. The front is dominated by a large, octagonal kidney grille with "Iconic Glow" contour lighting that ensures the vehicle is recognizable even at night. For 2026, the lineup introduces the Individual Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic paint, a matte finish that emphasizes the vehicle's muscular wheel arches. Standard 23-inch M light-alloy wheels and a unique stacked quad exhaust system at the rear underscore its performance pedigree. Laser-etched BMW roundels on the rear window pay homage to the classic M1, bridging the gap between BMW’s heritage and its futuristic design.

M Lounge Interior

Inside, the XM departs from traditional SUV layouts to create what BMW calls the "M Lounge." The rear seating area is designed as an immersive social space, featuring high-quality Merino leather and optional diamond-quilted textures. One of the most striking features is the sculptural, three-dimensional prism headliner, which is illuminated by 100 LED units to create a customizable ambient lighting experience.

The front of the cabin is a technological hub, centered around the BMW Curved Display running Operating System 8.5. This system integrates a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch touchscreen into a single unit. Standard amenities include massaging and ventilated front seats, a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, and four-zone automatic climate control, ensuring a first-class environment for all five occupants during local commutes or longer coastal drives.

Hybrid Performance

The 2026 XM features a sophisticated M Hybrid powertrain. It pairs a 4.4-liter BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine with an integrated electric motor to produce a combined 738 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque. This system allows the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3.6 seconds. An 8-speed M Steptronic transmission manages the power, while the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system provides a rear-biased setup for more dynamic handling.
